Attorney Laverne Osborne Pinkney  is a partner at the Pinkney Law Firm, P.A. She earned her Juris Doctorate Degree in 1988 from St. Thomas University, College of Law and Master of Public Administration in 1982 from Florida International University. She is co-founder of the Pinkney Law Firm, P.A., established in 2007 with her daughter, Attorney Charlene Michelle Pinkney, a Nova Law School Alumni.

In addition to her private law practice, from 2007 until 2015, Attorney Pinkney served as the Director of the Family and Education Law Clinic at Florida International University, College of Law, Clinical Program. As the Director, she was responsible for the operation of the Clinic, grant writing and all reporting and compliance requirements. She also taught the seminar and supervised between 6-10 law students each semester who were responsible for representation of parents and children in Family, Dependency, Special Education, School Discipline and Appellate proceedings. From June 2015 to  December 2015, as a result of recent changes in the law, Attorney Pinkney provided Family Law training to Americans for Immigrant Justice (AIJ) Attorneys who represent children in SIJ (Special Immigrant Juvenile Visa) cases. Additionally, she served as Professor and Supervising Attorney of the Neighborhood HELP Clinic, a partnership between FIU’s College of Law, Clinical Program and the Medical School.

Her previous experience includes service as Adjunct Professor, University of Miami, School of Law, Center for Ethics and Public Service; more than ten years with Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc., where she served as a Senior Staff Attorney and Supervisor of the Family, Juvenile and Education Unit; Chief Legal Counsel, Department of Children and Families, Broward County; Law Clerk, Administrator and United States Presidential Management Intern, United States Department of Justice, Criminal Division; Law Clerk/Staff Attorney and Special Master, 17th Circuit Court and Traffic Court Magistrate/ Hearing Officer, 11th Circuit Court.

In addition to her more than 20 years of experience litigating numerous individual cases, Attorney Pinkney has assisted in litigating several class/state actions pertaining to foster care, public benefits, child support and public education. Attorney Pinkney serves as Special Master in private cases involving the Foster Care System, Attorney ad Litem in Dependency Court Proceedings and Guardian ad Litem in family and property cases. She is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family and County Mediator.

She is a member of the Florida Bar and the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. She is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law in Davie, FL.
